We are writing to urge you to look into terapikonversi.co, a local company offering corrective rape to rehabilitate LGBTQ+ individuals in Indonesia. The LGBTQ+ community is being maliciously targeted by the company’s promotions of its conversion therapy services. The Jakarta Post had also published an article on 17 Feb 2021 on the targeting of LGBTQ+ individuals by terapikonversi.co.

Dehumanizing services such as electroconvulsive therapy and exorcism are part of their rehabilitative services for LGBTQ+ individuals. To make matters worse, Terapi Konversi is also offering rape as a cure for homosexuality. Is this not a criminal offence? Are such businesses given free rein to operate by the Indonesian authorities?

No one should be subjected to such torture. As rightful citizens of Indonesia, the LGBTQ+ community should be protected and treated with dignity and respect.

As of 18 February 2021, over 3000 individuals have signed our petition as a show of support against conversion torture in Indonesia.

We demand the Indonesian authorities to:
1. Release an official statement to condemn conversion therapy of all kinds
2. Ban all forms of conversion therapy across Indonesia
3. Clamp down on Terapi Konversi and other similar businesses and practices targeting the LGBTQ+ community

We urge for your immediate action. Please put an end to this inhumane practice for a more progressive Indonesia.

Sincerely,
Pelangi Nusantara
